I once heard that the most annoying types of people are artists with no creative outlet. Unprecedented as it was, it dawned on me that I’d been living in that state of crippled creativity for years. As a perfectionist, I did everything but accept the fact that my writing had little to no essence. And the truth is, no one pulls us out of the hole we dig ourselves into except ourselves. This is the uncomfortable journey of accepting what my work was, what it wasn’t, and what it could become. I wouldn’t wish this realization on anyone—but if you do happen to find yourself here too, I hope it shows you you’re not alone.
