      Synopsis

First in a brand-new urban fantasy series from the author of The Blood Books

The Gale family can change the world with the charms they cast, and they like to keep this in the family. Alysha Gale is tired of having all her aunts try to run her life, both personally and magically. So when the letter from her Gran arrives willing her a "junk" shop in Calgary, Alysha jumps at the chance. It isn't until she gets there that she realizes her customers are fey. And no one told her there's trouble brewing in Calgary-trouble so big that even calling in the family may not save the day...

      • You don't want to mess with the Gale's
        From Amazon

Reminiscent of Elgin's Ozark Fantasy books, The Enchantment Emporium presents us with the Gale family known for it's magical powers and overbearing "aunties." Allie Gale has inherited her grandmother's junk shop in Calgary and soon finds that there are things happening there, things that are building to a very dangerous climax. With a cast of intriguing and distinctive friends, The Enchantment Emporium, lets us explore this new urban fantasy world through Allie's eyes and it's a world I want to visit again and again. This is quite a different take from Huff's other popular urban fantasy novel as there's not a single vampire to be seen (at least not yet) but it's populated by leprechauns, witches, dragons and other miscellaneous magical creatures. I can't recommend this book highly enough, for me this was almost impossible to put down and led to one of those nights where I was up way past the time I should be because I was "almost finished."

      • The Enchanted Emporium
        From Amazon

This book is a hoot. I hope it is the first of 3. The character's conversations make me wish I were clever and could talk like that. They are real people and spending time with them is fun. The fantasy is a tad difficult to follow since we, at first, are not aware of the protagonist's powers or that of her powerful and annoying aunties. It kept me reading long past the time I should have been sleeping. It arrived within 3 days from Amazon.

      • Love Tanya Huff
        From Amazon

Tanya Huff is hilarious. Her urban fantasy stories are liberally seasoned with profanity, sex of all kinds, pop culture references and loads of sarcastic humor. This book features dragons, sorcerers, a tall leprechaun, a number of creepy-crawly things from the UnderRealm, and the Gale family, a huge and close-knit family of powerful cousins and the "Aunties", who appear to be capable of taking charge of the world if they feel like it. Hopefully The Enchantment Emporium is the start of a new series, because the Gale family is absolutely fascinating.

      • Excellant book in a hopefully great series
        From Amazon

The basic premise of this universe is the Gale family. A group of powerful practitioners (I dislike witch as it is too often a cliche or sufix). There are 5 Gale girls for every guy and many are bi. The list of characters include Allie (AKA Alley-cat), a Leprechaun, an early crush who is gay, her brother (very powerful), Charlie her girl friend, and a host of Aunties. Besides there are dragons, sorcerers, an assassin and a country music band. Nice characters and very well drawn. Nicely written romance without the "obligatory" erotic scenes becoming obtrusive. Nicely done plot that starts with Allie's Gran leaving her a curiosity shop and then devolves into a lot of perils. Some fun along the way and the description of plane smelling like ass is too often true. Some various humor and a lack of editorial errors and typos. The plot is very good and more substantial than most with a couple nice twists. A bit reminiscent of some other series but stands alone and I hope that this will not be the last. Overall an excellent read.

      • Great premise, but falls short
        From Amazon

This book had a lot of promise and the plot really intrigued me. A strong female character from a family of witches is my kind of reading...usually. The problem is that the storyline bounces around and the reader is left to decipher too many family secrets that are never really explained. I found myself waiting to be grabbed and I just never was. And, um, how do I bring up the whole "relatives with benefits" subject tactfully? Just a tad too freaky for me with the central character having to avoid too much physical contact with her brother lest they get carried away, but apparently cousins, male or female, are perfectly okay...I'm no prude, but it kinda made me raise an eyebrow. All in all a real disappointment. Still, I would give a sequel a try.
