Journeys to the end of the world, fantastic creatures, and epic battles between good and evil -- what more could any reader ask for in one book? The book that has it all is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, written in 1949 by Clive Staples Lewis. But Lewis did not stop there. Six more books followed, and together they became known as The Chronicles of Narnia.

For the past fifty years, The Chronicles of Narnia have transcended the fantasy genre to become part of the canon of classic literature. Each of the seven books is a masterpiece, drawing the reader into a land where magic meets reality, and the result is a fictional world whose scope has fascinated generations.

This edition presents all seven books -- unabridged -- in one impressive volume. The books are presented here according to Lewis' preferred order, each chapter graced with an illustration by the original artist, Pauline Baynes. Deceptively simple and direct, The Chronicles of Narnia continue to captivate fans with adventures, characters, and truths that speak to readers of all ages, even fifty years after they were first published.

  • A True Must Have!
    From Amazon

These seven books are books that any fan of fantasy literature must have. I read these books when I was a child, again as a teen and once more as an adult. I look forward to reading them again and again because I always find something new in the pages.

I have also enjoyed the first two Narnia movies. The BBC made movies out of four of these books, but they did not have the same computer animation technology that we have now, so they may seem somewhat dated. Anyway, back to the books...

My only problem with the boxed sets and the individual books as they have been repackaged and sold is that they are no longer in the order that C.S. Lewis wrote them in. I have to believe that he wrote the books in a particular order for a reason, so we ought to read them in that order. The original order (and the order of my original boxed set) is as follows: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, The Horse and His Boy, The Magician's Nephew, and The Last Battle. Chronologically from the founding of Narnia, the books run thus: Magician's Nephew, Lion Witch Wardrobe, Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, Silver Chair, Last Battle. I strongly suggest that you read them in the order they were written.

  • not to be missed
    From Amazon

It is great having all of these stories in one big, beautiful book. We are soon to start our 3rd time reading it. We have an 8 year old daughter and it is one of her favorite books - ever! She is an avid reader and her imagination and grounding have both been magnified from these stories. We read it aloud and she reads it by herself.

  • THE fantasy series
    From Amazon

I truly feel that the Chronicles of Narnia are among the best literature ever written for children, or anyone for that matter. I love this complete set with its gorgeous cover and colored illustrations. It contains all seven stories that take us from the creation of Narnia to its destruction and what lies after that. Narnia is intrinsically oonnected to our world, both literally (or at least through magic) and spiritually/figuratively with Lewis' Christian parallels. I know many critics complain about the blatant religious overtones, but I feel that is the style. Even so, these are great adventure stories full of rich character development and sing-song descriptions. Lewis, if nothing else, certainly knows how to tell and organize a great story, and his imagination is incredible.

  • Gotta have it all

Why not have the entire collection in one book? You know you're going to read every book written in these Chronicles!!

Tagged under Childrens literature but they are a great read for adults too. I read them as a child and I'm re-reading them now.
