Samah Selim is the 2009 winner of the Saif Ghobash – Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation for her translation of The collar and the bracelet by the late Yahya Taher Abdullah. The runners-up are Michelle Hartman for her translation of Iman Humaydan Younes’s novel Wild Mulberries and Elliott Colla for his translation of Ibrahim al-Koni’s Gold Dust.
The Long List for the 2009-2010 International Prize for Arabic Fiction was released in Cairo on 16 November 2009. The Short List will be announced at the Beirut Book Fair on 15 Decermber.The announcement of the winner and the Award Ceremony will take place in March 2010 at the beginning of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
Italian rights to Syrian author Samar Yazbek’s ‘Cinnamon‘ have been sold to Castelvecchi. The book should be available by Spring 2011. Castelvecchi is a Roman publisher.
