UNITED KINGDOM: Borders UK is to withdraw from five stores, including its branches on Oxford Street and in London Colney. A consultation process has begun with the employees who staff the five shops, but Borders would not say how many jobs would be affected by the closures, or when the shops would be shut.
ABU DHABI: KITAB, the joint venture of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and the Frankfurt Book Fair, recently held the first of two five-day CEO-level training programs it has organized this year for publishers from the Arab world. Nineteen publishers from eight Arab countries attended a series of workshops in Abu Dhabi from June 14 to 18, all with the aim of increasing the level of professionalism in the Arabic book publishing industry.

Planeta, Random House Mondadori, and Santillana, which together make up some 70% of the market, are joining forces to set up a digital distribution company for ebooks.
