Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Published before The Da Vinci Code that brought him world fame, Angels and Demons is Dan Brown's second mystery-thriller novel. The film adaptation of the novel comes as a sequel to The Da Vinci Code although it was published first and its events that take place before. The story focuses around the character of Robert Langdon who embarks on a mission to prevent a secret society called the Illuminati from destroying the Vatican City by using a destructive antimatter.
Brown seeks to employ this fictional narrative in order to highlight on the schism that exists between science and religion, embodied in his novel by the Roman Catholic Church and the Illuminati, in history. The novel introduces the protagonist that we encounter in the Da Vinci Code played by actor Tom Hanks. The film adaptation of Angels and demons was released in May of 2009.
