- In April, Beirut was announced World Book Capital of the year. Readers, booksellers, printers and writers and all people who work in the book industry are participating in this yearlong event that will englobe activities, seminars, festivities that stress on the importance of reading and writing in Beirut. The capital is also a significant feature of the project as it will be honored as a city of culture, literature and the arts. Many organizations, schools and booksellers are launching great events in relation to the book, with some publishing English books or organizing events or seminars in the English language. - BookExpo America is one of the biggest book fairs in the world, gathering more than a thousand exhibitors and featuring hundreds of new titles and authors. This year, BookExpo America took place from May 25-27 and a special parallel forum was organized to bring together publishers and distributors from the Arab World and the US in order to showcase the practices, markets and many other issues that are linked to the world of publishing in the region. The forum included talks and roundtables that touched upon the important and urgent aspects of publishing in the Arab world and its dissemination in the US.
